SSCCC, The Center Our name, Shepherd’s Staff Christian Counseling Center, reflects our common faith, purpose, vision, mission, values, philosophy, and strategy. Staff communicates the contemporary meaning of persons working together for a common purpose. Staff also elicits the motif of biblical times of the shepherd equipped to care for the flock. Finally it is consistent with the biblical metaphor of persons called by God for the purpose of serving people, God's sheep. Shepherd’s Staff Christian Counseling Center was founded as a mission of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in the spring of 1983. We began as a community outreach program designed to be the first step toward the vision of establishing a health care center with a Christian perspective. We incorporated, becoming separate from the church, on May 16, 1990, to protect the church from potential liability. We succeeded in being granted IRS charitable nonprofit status February 19, 1992. We maintain a non-denominational Christian identity; our Board of Trustees is made up of persons from area churches. Though most of our funding is based on service fees, we continue to appreciate the donated time, goods, and benevolence funds from Good Shepherd and others. This has enabled us to provide quality services on sliding scale basis. We welcome similar donations from others. In addition, we are pursuing other traditional non-profit funding sources.
We currently have offices in five locations: Magna, Sandy (main/mailing),
Ogden, Park City, and Sugar House/Salt Lake City, Utah. In addition to
providing direct clinical services, we provide pastoral consultation and
educational seminars and workshops. |
