I
found my Lord and Savior when I was 25 years old. I grew up in a religious
home and after questioning the beliefs I was taught, the Lord blessed
me with a friend who shared teachings of the gospel and the Bible with
me. Since then, I have been enjoying my walk with God and thank Him for
everything.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in 2005 from Utah Valley State College.
I studied the Behavioral Sciences with an emphasis in Social Work. Shortly
before graduating I started working at Slate Canyon Youth Center with
teenage girls. The following fall I started working on my Master's Degree
at the University of Phoenix, Utah Campus, studying counseling. In the
spring of 2006 I started working for the Juvenile Court as a Probation
Officer helping troubled teens. I graduated with my Masters in Counseling
in November of 2007. I started working as a therapist at a residential
treatment center for teens in February 2008 where I currently work fulltime.
I became fully licensed in the state of Utah as a Licensed Professional
Counselor (LPC) in January of 2010.
My therapeutic approach includes a person centered therapy which involves
meeting individual needs through developing a relationship to assist the
client in acknowledging what kind of changes they would like to make.
My approach also includes cognitive and behavioral therapies. Cognitive
therapy helps identify and change errors in thinking which contribute
to a persons emotions and behavior. Behavioral therapy identifies unwanted
behaviors and works to alter and change those behaviors. I also hold a
holistic and spiritual approach to counseling where I help individuals
become balanced in all areas of life including physical, emotional, and
spiritual. However, I respect my clients and do not insist a spiritual
component be included in therapy if it is not desired. My general practices
include individual, couple, family, and group counseling. My special interests
include adolescents, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, grief, ADHD,
mood disorders, eating disorders, conduct and oppositional defiance, and
couples.
When I am not working I enjoy spending time in the outdoors. In the winter
time I enjoy skiing and snow shoeing. In the summertime I enjoy hiking,
fishing, camping, and golfing. I enjoy softball and am currently on a
city league team. I’m very active and enjoy keeping busy with those
I care about. (more-vita)
