Dixon, MC I began my walk with Christ when I accepted him into my life in October 2009. I felt unconditional love from Christ and my church in response to my need. I continued the wonderful journey with Baptism on March 10th, 2010. I found a home at Christian Life Center in Layton, Utah where I am excited to be able to learn and continue in my faith while reaching out to help those who feel lost and broken. I want to help others find their way, find a peace that will sustain them, experience God’s grace, and know their inestimable value and worth to Him. My education has grown out of my desire to help others and recognition of the value of different courses of study. I received a BA in family studies and psychology from Weber State University in 1988, a Masters of Counseling from the University of Phoenix in 2008 and a Masters of Forensic Psychology from Argosy University in October 2010. I am working on a PhD in Counseling from Capella University and hope to complete it in 2013. I first worked at Your Community Connection in Ogden Utah in the domestic violence shelter, helping victims of domestic violence find jobs, housing, childcare, and understanding of the effects of domestic violence in their lives and subsequently in their children’s lives. After five years in the shelter I worked in the rape center at YCC helping victims of sexual assault, (women, men, adolescents and children). I offered crisis counseling and was with them as needed during the legal process. I was also in charge of volunteer training. After ten years of crisis counseling at YCC I was hired at Intermountain Specialized Abuse Treatment (ISAT) Center where I continue to be employed. At ISAT I work with domestic violence and sex abuse victims and offenders, provide drug and alcohol counseling, and conduct play therapy to help children. In April of 2010 I began working at the Christian Counseling Centers of Utah as Licensed Professional Counselor. My way of working with people is based on the belief that people need to understand they are valued, a message they may not have received during their earlier childhood years. A lack of self worth often results from the treatment a person received growing up. This often affects a person’s ability to be in relationship with others because of negative or inaccurate beliefs that have developed. Not knowing the origin of patterns of behavior makes it difficult to change these patterns. I respect my clients and the differences each individual client brings to the counseling and value listening without judging. My special interests include grief issues, human induced trauma, including physical, emotional and sexual trauma. I work with individual of all ages and with groups. I provide drug, alcohol and sexual addiction counseling. I work with children and provide play therapy for younger children. I have experience working with adolescents who have behavioral and sexual problems. I enjoy
reading and spending time with my husband, children and grandchildren.
I have not always known where I belonged in this world, and it has taken
me many years to find my way home. Now that I have found my way with Christ
as my Savior He will be able to work through me and help others on their
journey home. (more-vita) |
