Statement of Professional Interests and Therapeutic Orientation

I enjoy most working with adolescents and adults through individual or family therapy. I enjoy collaborating with other professionals and prefer to work in a group practice within a multi-disciplinary framework. Philosophically, my therapeutic orientation is broadly relational: relations are most basic to identity and psychology (as opposed to abstractions). In other words, persons are always in relation to God, others, and self in complex ways which reveals who they are and how they function.

Theoretically, then, I approach clinical work from a holistic approach which includes theological, family systems, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic aspects. My professional interests include interpersonal problems, adoption issues, mood disorders (especially depression), spiritual/religious concerns, sexual orientation issues, and men’s issues (male development, father-son issues, mentoring). I also enjoy long-term clinical work from a relational psychodynamic perspective to address mood, personality, and personal growth concerns.
